  1. I dunno, but my VFW post in “ahem” Melrose is quite the ghost town now that they banned smoking. That being said the local ELks has no ban, business is booming.

  2. Germany is trying to do something like that also.

A few of the pubs have started charging dues and now they are “Private Smoking Clubs.”

I don’t know all the legal jargon and how this works but I know I have paid dues to two places so far just so I can still smoke.

The dues are One Euro per year..hehe. The pub owners are giving a big F.U. to the gov’t I think….

  4. Geez…I’m not a smoker and I hate the smell of cigarette smoke…but if I go into a bar, it’s no big deal. I have no problem with it there. If I wanted to drink without smoke, I’d stay at home. If I want to hang with friends, the bar it is.

When the anti-smoking Nazis pulled the no-smoking-in-bars-crap, I had a similar idea to this – make the bar a ‘member’s only’ establishment where the membership fee is one dollar for five years and you have to sign a simple form acknowledging that smoking is occuring in the bar and you have no objection to it.

Sweet, simple, and to the point. I haven’t heard of anyone doing here in California, but it probably would have been found ‘illegal’ by some stretch of the imagination….especially if it was challenged by someone who’d never have any reason to set foot in a bar in the first place.

I’m personally of the mindset that if a law is enacted that it should pass some sort of ‘WTF!?!’ litmus test by public vote….
